We are happy to announce that the coming DT XVI International Conference on Arid
Land will be held on 10-12 November 2025, Tokyo International Exchange Center,
Plaza Heisei, Tokyo, Japan.
Since 1991, series of the Desert Technology (DT) international conference has provided
opportunities for researchers of various specialties related to arid land studies to share
their researches, discuss together and develop international research collaborations.
Since 2011, the conference has reconstructed with the title of International Conference
on Arid Land (ICAL), as well as DT, to encourage participation of not only researchers
on science, technology and engineering on arid land but also those on humanity, social
sciences and other various specialties.
The coming DT XVI International Conference on Arid Land welcomes contributions as
oral and poster presentations on the research related to arid lands such as
- nature and characteristics of arid area and deserts including climate, hydrology, and
vegetation.
- mechanisms of environmental transformation, land degradation, aridity and
desertification.
- engineering and technology to prevent, combat and adopt to land degradation,
aridity and desertification and utilize the arid land and desert.
- humanities research, including history, anthropology and culture of people living
in/with arid lands.
- social science research on the impact of arid lands and deserts on society, social
dynamics and social issues in these areas.
Venue
Tokyo International Exchange Center, Plaza Heisei locates on Tokyo Waterfront City
(TFC) developed on Tokyo Bay. The commuter railways Yurikamome Line and Rinkai
Line connect TFC to Tokyo. Around the conference venue, spots for sightseeing,
shopping malls, museums and activities are available.
Note: The organizer offers lunch and Gala dinner in addition to the conference.
Participants are requested to book accommodation by themselves. The organizing
committee will recommend some neighboring hotels. For details, visit the web page.

Call for papers
We encourage and welcome your contributions with your oral/poster presentation and
participation.
Submission of abstract for presentation is requested prior to presentation. Abstract must
be prepared using the format and submitted via this page (link to Form2: coming soon) after checking the box for the preferred presentation format (oral/poster) no later than 20 April 2025.
Acceptance of the abstract shall be announced in the middle of May 2025.
After the abstract has been accepted, the author will be required to prepare the paper
according to the instructions and submit it via the manuscript submission form (link to Form3: coming soon) no later than 20 October 2025. The manuscript should be no more than four pages in length. The manuscript will be peer-reviewed and published in a special issue of the Journal of Arid Land Studies.
